Work the World is the leading provider of dentistry, medical, midwifery, nursing and physiotherapy electives and placements in Africa, Asia and South America.
We have a experienced and knowledgeable team in the UK head office as well as in each of our overseas destinations, providing you with a 24/7 support network and lots of advice and guidance both before you leave and while your are away. We make sure your placement is efficiently organised and matches your interests, and also sort out all in-country logistics. All you need to focus on is enjoying the experience!
Meet our UK team
Omar Mohamed - Director
Prior to co-founding Work the World in 2005, Omar worked in the gap year industry promoting responsible travel for six years. His career has involved working for extensive periods of time in 11 destinations which span North America, Europe, Asia and Africa. During this time Omar was organising, developing and overseeing work experience projects in the fields of social welfare, education, health and conservation.
Dave Brown - Director
Dave has set up and managed volunteer and work experience projects on five continents. He spent 18 months as a Country Programme Director in Ghana, West Africa, and has also lived for extended periods in India, Korea, South Africa and Mexico. Prior to setting up Work the World, he was the Operations Director at Development Travel Company Madventurer.
Abby Moreton - Project Advisor
Abby joined Work the World as Project Advisor in 2008. Her job involves travelling the length and breadth of the country speaking to students about the opportunities available overseas. She is also the one to contact if you are thinking about heading overseas for your placement but aren't really sure where to start. If you have any questions just give her a call!
Alison Cullen - Operations Manager
Alison was born in Ibaraki, Japan, and moved to the UK when she was 13 years old. With a real thirst for travel, she completed two round the world trips before joining Work the World in 2008.
Alison is in charge of co-ordinating the Work the World programmes in India, Nepal and Sri Lanka. As such she is the main point of contact for the students before they leave, but also works closely with our overseas teams to ensure everything runs smoothly.
Lewis Forder - Operations Manager
Lewis travelled throughout Europe and northern Africa before settling in Brighton with Work the World. Previously employed in the capacity of Office Manager he is now responsible for the pre-departure placement administration for those students travelling to Africa.
Lewis works closely with our staff overseas to facilitate the efficient running of the these programmes. Once you have signed up to a Work the World programme in Africa he will be your next port of call before your placement begins.
Ruth Chapman - Communications Manager
Ruth joined us in the spring of 2009 as Communications Manager. Coming from a background in travel and product marketing, Ruth's love of exploring has seen her head off round the world twice.
Ruth is an experienced travel writer and project manager, and her role here is to develop the Work the World website, marketing literature and affiliate partners to make sure all content is fresh, exciting and reflective of the hard work the team put in creating such brilliant placements.
Faye Stickings - Operations Director
Having travelled extensively in Africa, Asia and South America, Faye has several years experience in the gap-year industry and has worked with students on healthcare, education and conservation projects around the world.
Heading up both our UK and overseas destination teams, as well as providing support to students before they leave, Faye's role is to ensure each placement runs as efficiently and smoothly as possible.
Nicole Jones - Office Manager
Nicole is the most recent member of our team, joining us in December 2009 as Office Manager. Originating from Australia, Nicole has travelled throughout the world and has lived and worked in several countries, most recently in Canada.
As well as managing the UK head office in Brighton, Nicole organises all the important paperwork prior to each student's departure. She is the point of contact for correspondence between the universities/colleges and Work the World.
