Meet our UK team
Omar Mohamed - Director
Prior to co-founding Work the World in 2005, Omar worked in the gap year industry promoting responsible travel for six years. His career has involved working for extensive periods of time in eleven destinations, which span North America, Europe, Asia and Africa. During this time Omar was arranging, developing and overseeing work-experience projects in the fields of social welfare, education, health and conservation.
Dave Brown - Director
Dave has set up and managed volunteer and work-experience projects on five continents. He spent eighteen months as a programme director in Ghana, West Africa, and has also lived for extended periods in India, Korea, South Africa and Mexico. Prior to setting up Work the World, he was the Operations Director at a large development travel company.
Faye Stickings - Operations Director
Having spent time in Africa, Asia and South America, Faye has many years experience in the gap-year industry and has worked with students on healthcare, education, social and conservation projects around the world. Heading up both our UK and overseas destination teams, as well as taking on sole responsibility for Argentina, Faye's role is to ensure all placements run as smoothly and effectively as possible.
Abby Moreton - Project Advisor
Abby joined Work the World as Project Advisor in 2008. She is the one to contact if you are thinking about heading overseas for your placement but aren't really sure where to start. If you have any questions just give her a call! Her job also involves journeying across the UK, speaking to students about the opportunities available overseas.
Alison Cullen - Operations Manager
Alison was born in Ibaraki, Japan, and moved to the UK when she was 13 years old. With a real thirst for travel, she completed two round-the-world trips before joining Work the World in 2008.
Alison is in charge of co-ordinating the Work the World projects in India, Nepal and Sri Lanka. As such she is the main point of contact for the students before they leave, but also works closely with our overseas teams to ensure everything runs according to plan.
Lewis Forder - Operations Manager
Lewis spent time in Europe and northern Africa before settling in Brighton with Work the World. He is responsible for the pre-departure placement administration for those students going out to Africa with us. Lewis works closely with our staff overseas to facilitate the efficient running of these programs, which involves occasional travel out to Ghana and Tanzania. Once you have signed up to a Work the World program in one of these countries he will be your next point of contact before your placement begins.
Ruth Chapman - Communications Manager
Ruth joined us in the spring of 2009 as our communications manager. Coming from a background in travel and product marketing, Ruth's love of exploring has seen her head off round the world twice. Ruth is an experienced travel-writer and project manager, and her role here is to develop the Work the World website, marketing literature and affiliate partners, in order to make sure all content is fresh, exciting and reflective of the hard work the team put in, creating such brilliant placements.
Nicole Jones - Office Manager
Originating from Australia, Nicole has voyaged around much of the world and has lived and worked in several countries - most recently in Canada.
Nicole joined Work the World in December 2009 and as well as managing the Brighton office, she arranges all the important paperwork prior to each student's departure. She is the point of contact for correspondence between universities/ colleges and Work the World.
Simon Vaughan - Programme Development Manager
Simon has just joined our team to work with our North American students as a first point of contact for helping them choose their overseas placement...
Having spent long periods of time in Europe, India, Africa and South America, Simon has an extensive understanding of the challenges you can face when living and working in different cultural settings. He has been caught in the middle of the Amazon, with no way out for two days, had 3 different strains of malaria and been chased by a grumpy hippo. On the plus side Simon has only spent one winter in the UK for the last 10 years, he's lived with the Dalai Lama in the mountains of the Himalayas and has very few frown lines.
