Fredrick Chakyi - Programme Manager
Freddy is proud to be from the 'roof of Africa'; he was born in Marangu, Moshi, which is the starting point for climbing Kilimanjaro. He moved to Arusha in 1990 and worked for several years in the tourist industry, both in the town and as a guide in the local game reserves. Freddy joined the Work the World team in Arusha in 2007 and hasn't looked back - his hard work and dedication resulted in him becoming the Arusha manager in 2008.
Freddy lives in a small town called Usa River, located between Arusha town and Kilimanjaro Airport, with his wife and 2 daughters, Floral and Florence. He is a sporting enthusiast and an obsessive fan of Karaoke.
Brian Boniface - Assistant Programme Manager
Brian joined Work the World at the age of 28 in August 2010. He lives in a small town called Tengeru which is ten kilometres from Arusha with his wife Julieth and his daughter Illyn. Brian was previously the manager of a cafe and has completed and attained certificates in several varied areas such as the "Country Fire Protection" award.
Brian is a music lover and he likes to play Tanzanian music that gets everyone dancing at the weekly BBQ! He particularly likes Reggae music and Bongo flava music (Tanzanian hip-hop).
Witness Mtango - Caterer
When Witness isn't cooking up a storm in the Arusha house, she spends her time with the students, helping them brush up on their Swahili.
Originally from Same in Kilimanjaro, Witness spent many years in Moshi, working as a cook in two different hotels. She now lives within the Work the World campus during the week, returning to Moshi at the weekends to visit her parents and her son, Kelvin. Always smiling, Witness is an integral part of our Tanzanian experience - and you should try her banana curry!
Susanna Shayo - Housekeeper
Susanna joined Work the World in April 2011. Susanna is the housekeeper in the Njiro house and goes to great lengths to keep the house clean, tidy and running smoothly, as well as helping Witness in the kitchen. She has many years of experience in housekeeping and catering, and has a wealth of knowledge about Arusha. Susanna will be able to show you where to buy all the best local souvenirs, paintings and clothing!
She lives in a small town called Sanawari, one kilometre from Arusha town, with her husband and their three children, Stanley, Loretta and Kenneth. Susanna likes music, playing netball and football and going to the cinema.
