Meet the team in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania

Alpha Mapepele - Programme Manager

Alpha Mapepele - Programme Manager

Alpha joined the Dar es Salaam team in August 2010.

Originally from Dodoma, the capital of Tanzania, he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Cultural Anthropology and Tourism from Tumaini University, Iringa.  Alpha has always had a keen interest in the tourism industry and his previous employment has included working for one of Tanzania's major travel & safari companies as well as recently having a senior role within Mafia Island Marine Park, just off the coast of Zanzibar.

In his spare time Alpha is a keen sportsman and is a demon on the football pitch (if you fancy taking him on!).  He also enjoys playing volleyball, listening to music and reading.

Leonard Mark - Assistant Programme Manager

Leonard Mark - Assistant Programme Manager

Leonard Mark (likes to be known as Mark), our newest addition to the Dar es Salaam team, lived and worked in Arusha before starting with Work the World in Spring 2011.  He graduated in 2009 with a degree in Cultural Anthropology and Tourism and during and after his studies, has worked in various National Parks around Tanzania as a tour leader and safari camp manager.

Mark has a keen interest in learning about different cultures, reading books and listening to music (and singing along!) in his free time.

Rehema Saidi - Caterer

Rehema Saidi - Caterer

We discovered Rehema at a 5-star hotel in Jambiani on the east coast of Zanzibar. Having tasted her incredible cooking, we invited her to join the team in April 2008. Rehema believes that food is an integral part of the Work the World experience and encourages students to try many local recipes, with ugali and fish being one of her best loved dishes.

Rehema is always popular amongst the girls in the house as she is quite the expert at hair-braiding and helping students with their Kiswahili.

Neema Kimaro - Housekeeper

Neema Kimaro - Housekeeper

Neema joined Work the World in October 2011. Neema is the housekeeper in the Oyster Bay house and is responsible for keeping the house clean and comfortable for all students. She can also often be found helping Rehema with the cooking, having had a number of years' experience working for luxury hotels in Dar es Salaam.

Her main interests are reading and watching movies. She also loves interacting with students and is really keen to keep improving her English. Neema will be able to give you lots of advice about where to buy all the best local souvenirs, paintings and clothing!
