After a 13.5 hour flight I finally landed in Buenos Aires. Ezeiza airport was a bit of a free-for-all, with a massive customs queue to exit that seemed to cause several disagreements between those waiting.
I stayed in a lovely hotel, which was probably a slightly too posh, but I’d got a good deal on the price, so the luxury was quite nice. After exploring a while I came across Florida street, which was full of tourists and had a market running along it’s entire length.
For the afternoon I decided to take to the tour bus to help get my bearings and get ideas for places to visit when I come back in November. It took me through areas from up market docks of Puerto Madero to the beautiful parks in Palermo.
After sleeping quite early due to the journey/time difference, I was driven to the domestic airport by a rather daredevil taxi driver, who enjoyed weaving and speeding down the road. Following some confusion about my flight (I had tickets, but the flight itself didn’t seem to exist) I was rushed on to a plane and soon landed in Mendoza.
I was met by the lovely Nat, who is programme manager here, and taken to lunch and on a comprehensive tour by her assistant Jose. The city is beautiful, with wide tree-lined avenues and brilliant sunshine.
I’m currently the only student staying in the house for a 3/4 weeks, but there are always people around in the week, and I’ve been made to feel very welcome. The house is spacious, with a lovely garden and roof terrace with a great view of the city. We’re opposite a massive park that will be perfect for enjoying the sunshine.
Tomorrow I’ll be starting my paediatrics placement which I’ll tell you all about soon
