Zanzibar – New for 2008

Zanzibar is an island paradise in the Indian Ocean. It’s world famous for white sand beaches and incredible scuba diving. You can swim with wild dolphins and watch thousands of sea turtles emerge from the surf to lay their eggs in the sand. A major tourist industry has developed on the island, but little of the wealth it generates reaches Zanzibar’s mainly Muslim population.

The Placements

Our brand new programme will take you into the heart of Stone Town (the old capital) to work at the government-run Mnazi Mmoja Hospital. Mnazi Mmoja is the largest hospital on the island. It serves almost a million people, both directly and through referrals from smaller clinics. Despite a serious shortage of resources, the hospital offers an impressive range of services. We have opportunities for placements in most major fields of medicine and surgery, as well as nursing, dentistry and physiotherapy.

The Work the World House

The Work the World house is a short daladala ride from Stone Town. It offers all of our usual features (see what’s included) and is just a few minutes from the beach. So after work, you can build up that all-important elective tan, or sip ice cold Tusker beer as fresh lobster cooks at the Coconut Beach Bar BBQ .

Split Placement Option

Daily domestic flights between Zanzibar and Kilimanjaro International Airport take less than an hour. You may want to consider splitting your placement between our Zanzibar and Tanzania programmes. Our base in Arusha is in the heart of safari country and you can take part in our Maasai Traditional Medicine Experience. We’re happy to arrange the two placements around your dates and requirements. We’re happy to discuss your plans anytime.
