Dental elective placements in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania

Many Tanzanians suffer from dental fluorosis due to contaminated water and diet, so working with severe decay and advanced disease is inevitable.

Government tertiary referral hospital - Our placements are based in the largest tertiary referral and teaching hospital in the country. It has a busy dental department that links to the local school of dentistry and has good supervisors. For elective students this is the best chance available in Tanzania to gain experience in more specialist areas such as oral surgery, oral pathology and medicine, as well as preventative and community dentistry, prosthodontics, periodentology and cariology.

Split placements - Dentistry placements at the referral hospital are not available during August, so if your elective coincides with this time, or you are in Tanzania for more than four weeks, it's worth arranging a split placement. We can arrange time in both the tertiary referral hospital and in a smaller hospital in Northern Tanzania as part of our Arusha or Mwanza programmes.
