Nursing elective placements in Sri Lanka, South Asia
Even though Kandy is the medical centre for the surrounding region, and people are referred here from all around the area, hospitals have very few facilities and nurses will need to use manual skills.
Government hospital - From our base in Kandy we work with two of the largest referral teaching hospitals in the country. There are excellent opportunities to specialise in General medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics, Gynaecology, Paediatrics, Orthopaedics, Mental health, Cardiology, Oncology, Neurosurgery, Emergency and trauma as well as transplantation - the hospital specialises in kidney transplants, performing 80% of all cases in Sri Lanka.
Don't forget - if your preferred speciality is not listed, give us a call as we can usually accommodate most requests. You could also think about other opportunities to make more of your elective:
Ayurvedic medicine - Holistic treatment is integral to Sri Lankan healthcare and many people shun modern medicine in favour of traditional care. To complement your hospital placement we run a week long Ayurvedic medicine course that gives you the opportunity to both learn, practice and receive treatment whilst living with a local family.
