Government tertiary referral hospital - Our placements are based in the largest tertiary referral and teaching hospital in the country which has it's own orthopaedic institution focusing on traumatology, neural surgery and physiotherapy. Linked to the university, there are some excellent supervisors and as patients are referred here from all over the region, students have lots of opportunities to work on more specialist cases such as trauma, stroke, paediatric burns and fracture management using some of the better equipment available in Tanzania.

Split placements - If you are in Tanzania for more than four weeks, it's a brilliant place to do a split placement. We can arrange for you to spend part of your time at the tertiary referral orthopaedic institute as well as incorporate time at a regional or district hospital based at the Arusha or Lake Victoria programmes.
Village healthcare experience - Zanzibar has a few smaller hospitals dotted around the island. To complement your city placement, we offer a fantastic opportunity to travel to a rural village where you will spend a week working in a cottage hospital that caters to the local community. Living with a local family in basic accommodation and spending afternoons with a guide learning about rural Zanzibarian culture, visiting sacred sites and getting involved in fishing and weaving, is a unique cultural experience.
