Electives in Peru - Arequipa
Dentistry in AREQUIPA
An expert group of dentists and dental aides staff our partner hospital’s Dentistry Department. The team primarily performs remedial care, however the rise of pre-emptive care procedures can be seen almost universally. The hospital plays a key role in delivering the government’s free dental care programme that caters for low income patients, making the department you’ll work in an all-inclusive service for members of the community who need everything from fillings, to oral surgery and beyond. Common complications you could encounter include cavities, misaligned teeth, and severe decay. Hit the green ‘ENQUIRE NOW’ button to find out more.
Medicine in AREQUIPA
Medical students who choose Arequipa will enjoy a varied placement across a number of departments in the oldest and most revered hospital in Southern Peru. For example there are incredible opportunities in the Oncology Department, where the mortality rate from cancer is incredibly high as well as emergency, surgery, trauma, resuscitation, OBG and more. Our medical electives in Peru are quite simply as diverse and immersive as you could imagine. Hit the ‘ENQUIRE NOW’ button to find out more.
Midwifery in AREQUIPA
Midwifery in Arequipa is entirely different to what you’ll be used to in the UK. Some things will challenge even the most fundamental understandings you have about best practice. For example, there is no pain relief for women in labour, the vast majority of mothers don’t receive postnatal care, and Caesareans are commonplace. Preeclampsia and premature births are also common for many as a result of the stresses of living in such difficult conditions. The teams of professional midwives with whom you will work are incredibly dedicated. If you show enthusiasm, they’ll welcome you in and present you with fantastic novel opportunities that will make your experience here. Hit the ‘ENQUIRE NOW’ button to find out more.
Nursing in AREQUIPA
Nursing in Arequipa will prove to be an enlightening experience. Specialist areas like pediatric, adult, and mental health nursing don’t really exist in the strictest sense, as nurses tend to be generalists here. You will however get to see a very broad range of departments and ailments that you’d otherwise miss. There’s lots of outpatient work (pediatrics included), and you could encounter cases of HIV, TB and work the biggest Oncology Department in Southern Peru. Hit the ‘INQUIRE NOW’ button to find out more.
Pharmacy in AREQUIPA
Pharmacy students who choose Arequipa will have an exceptional placement. For example, the hospital’s Oncology Department makes its own chemotherapy medicine, and you’ll be able to get involved in this process yourself. You’ll also have the chance to go on ward rounds and work in the dispensary, OBG, and emergency to get a clear understanding of how the pharmacy system works throughout the hospital. Hit the ‘ENQUIRE NOW’ button to find out more.
Physiotherapy in AREQUIPA
Physiotherapy students in Arequipa will experience a placement that is heavily geared towards clinical and manual physio treatments. Machine-based physiotherapy is almost non-existent, as there’s a considerable lack of resources. As our partner hospital has the largest Oncology Department in Southern Peru, you’ll also have the chance to work with cancer patients and the post-chemotherapy recovery treatments. Hit the ‘ENQUIRE NOW’ button to find out more.
Radiography IN AREQUIPA
