Our story so far
7th August 2020
The past few months have been a challenging and testing time for everyone across the world following the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Following the initial outbreak, our immediate focus was repatriating those who were in our programmes throughout Asia, Africa and Latin America. Our number one priority is, as always, the safety and wellbeing of the students in our programmes and our global staff team.
The British Foreign and Commonwealth Office then advised against all but essential travel outside of the UK. This was deeply frustrating for those whose placement plans were disrupted. Since then, our experienced team has worked around the clock to ease the disruption as much as possible through such a challenging time.
We have spoken with hundreds of customers who were due to travel with us during this time, making sure we made the most appropriate plans based on their individual needs.
A significant number of universities made the decision to suspend international placements and we have been collaborating with our university partners from around the globe, many of whom have rescheduled their placement blocks into 2021. In some cases we’ve agreed to several options of new block dates spread over the course of a few months, ensuring as much flexibility as possible. We have also offered postponements for up to 24 months to everyone who had their travel plans disrupted.
LOOKING INTO THE FUTURE
We understand the great concern associated with this global pandemic and we would like to assure you that you are in expert hands. We are a highly experienced, small and personal team committed to delivering the best overseas clinical and travel experiences in the world. To date we have tailored over 15,000 placements and have been in operation for over 15 years.
As the world is starting to reopen, you can now, once again, start registering for your Work the World placement.
Many countries are now reopening their borders to visitors. There is however no escaping the fact that the world as we once knew it is going to be very different. Nevertheless we can guarantee you that we will constantly review our safety protocols, adapting and advancing them day in, day out.
As our Work the World programmes start to reopen, we will be following enhanced procedures to minimise the risks of COVID-19. We have incredibly strong, agile relationships with all our expert in-country teams and partner hospitals ensuring that as the new world evolves, every part of our service offering will too.
We will continue to liaise closely with all global health authorities, the World Health Organization (WHO) and government agencies to ensure all the decisions we make are guided by the most up to date and relevant information available. In addition to the government advice, we remain in close contact with our locally-hired, highly trained teams on the ground in all of our programmes to get first-hand information and insight.
You can also feel safe knowing that you’ll live in our privately run accommodation, accessible only to you, your housemates and our in-country team. That means we have total control over things like cleanliness and hygiene - not necessarily something you’ll get in a homestay or a hostel. Whichever Work the World programme you decide to travel to, our enhanced procedures will be in place. And, as with every other aspect of our service, these protocols will be tailored to the specific needs of each destination.
BOOKING WITH CONFIDENCE
We want to give you total peace of mind when booking your overseas placement. We understand that future travel plans may need to change and in these unprecedented times we know how important it is for you to have flexibility.
With this in mind, we are offering you more flexibility than ever before.
We have now relaxed our terms and conditions, meaning if you need to, you can now make as many changes to your booking as you like. Whether that be changes to your travel dates or your chosen destination, you can do so easily and we have waived all amendment costs.
Book your overseas placement and feel confident knowing that you are in expert hands.
We want to say thank you for your support and understanding in these difficult times. The safety and wellbeing of our customers, global staff team and hospital partners has always been at the heart of everything we do, and will continue to be as we step forward together.
We look forward to warmly welcoming you onto our programmes in the very near future.
