Complete your trip with a once-in-a-lifetime add-on experience.

Once your main hospital placement has ended, you can spend a week in a village,  learning how healthcare is delivered in a rural setting. These add-on experiences are available in most of our destinations, so check below to see the full list.

Village Healthcare Weeks - £450

Spend time with a rural community in your destination of choice by adding this extra week to the end of your trip.

We will transport you to the village, where a Work the World guide will be waiting to greet you.

You’ll spend time in the village and immerse yourself in local culture.

In the mornings, you’ll visit a local health outpost, clinic or rural hospital (depending on which destination you’re in). You’ll see the limits of what local healthcare staff can do for patients given the lack of resources.

Each afternoon, you’re free to immerse yourself in the local community. You'll gain a better understanding of local cultures, their beliefs and how they earn a living.

Depending on which destination you pick, you could go island hopping to meet different local tribes, swim in waterfalls, watch local fishermen bring in the day’s catch to sell at the local markets, hike to mountain temples and visit village shaman where you’ll see traditional medicine being practiced.

This once-in-a-lifetime opportunity will be the highlight of your trip.

The Village Healthcare Week is in addition to your city-based placement.

Ayurvedic Health Weeks - £450

Add an extra week to the end of your trip to experience life in one of rural Sri Lanka’s more remote villages.

Your local Work the World guide will meet you when you arrive and take you to your accommodation for the week.

In the mornings, you’ll head to the nearby Ayurveda clinic. Ayurveda, or ‘tree medicine’, is a 5000-year-old healing art passed down through generations.

You’ll learn how to create Ayurvedic medicines from plants and tree barks gathered from the surrounding forest. The diagnoses and treatments will fascinate you, and so will the patients themselves.

In the afternoons, you’re free to explore the best of the region. Go on a wild elephant safari, tour beautiful local paddy fields, explore jungle river networks by canoe, and cool off with an evening swim in the nearby lake - an amazing way to take in a sunset.

The Ayurveda Experience is in addition to your city-based placement. Enquire now to see how you can add the Ayurveda Experience to the end of your placement.
