Our midwifery work placements offer a fantastic opportunity to gain firsthand experience of being a midwife in Africa or India by providing you with;

Each placement is arranged on an individual basis, matching your interests, level of training and experience.  The reality of working in Africa or India will be vastly different to what you are used to but will give you invaluable experience of the variety of care across different cultures. This is of course useful for both professional and personal development plus the experience really stands out on a C.V.

Choose your clinical specialities

Our partner hospitals and clinics in each destination are carefully chosen to offer a wide range of clinical opportunities in the antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care of women and we can also arrange more for specialist fields on request.

As well as your core hospital placement, you also have the unique opportunity to take part in programmes which give a broader insight into the realities of healthcare and everyday life in the developing world. We have a village experience programme running across Africa where you work alongside community based midwives, providing care and support to rural farming communities which have little access to clinics or hospitals. This is combined with traditional Maasai medicine in Tanzania, which incorporates midwifery practices of the local tribes. Finally, we run a specialist course in the ancient healthcare science of Ayurveda in India, where you will learn everything from the uses of medicinal herbs to massage techniques. Because every student wants something slightly different from their elective, we think it’s important to organise the placement around you, not try to fit you into a standard package.
