Due to a lack of prenatal care in rural communities, you may see conditions such as pre-eclampsia, premature births, and ruptured membranes while on placement in Arequipa. Cultural traditions such as women giving birth standing up, or having an 'Abuela' (grandmother) present for the birth, will add to the experience and make for a truly unique placement.
