Ethical policy

With many of our programmes taking place in the developing world, we have a social and moral responsibility to maximise the benefits and minimise the negative impact wherever we can.

  • We employ local people overseas rather than expatriates wherever it is practical to do so. This not only supports local economies, but also helps to bridge the cultural divide between us and our partner hospitals and communities.
  • We actively support social development initiatives overseas, both through projects run by elective students in their spare time and with financial donations. You can read more about this in our blog.
  • We try to purchase as much as we can for our programmes from local producers; whether it’s the bed you sleep in or the bread you eat for breakfast, chances are it was made in the town where we’re based.
  • We use local public transport whenever it is safe and reasonably convenient to do so, helping to conserve the environment as well as helping the economy.

We’re always open to suggestions, so if you see something that we could do better, please contact us.
